简介:

  1957年,大学生林相俊(吴升一 饰)来到北海道,拜访父亲的好友松本秋男(滨村纯 饰)。在松本先生的家里,他见到了对方正在念高中的养女伽耶子(南果步 饰)。十数年前,二次大战结束后的混乱时期,伽耶子被日本人的生身父母抛弃,后被作为朝鲜人的松本夫妇收养。短暂的相遇,让相俊和伽耶子对彼此都有了隐隐的好感。此后他们虽然身处东京和北海道两地,却依然通过信件交流心声。然而战争、民族等等因素宛如无形的大墙,横亘在两人的中间。相俊的父亲奎洙(加藤武 饰)无法忘却民族的屈辱和仇恨,即使作为战胜的一方仍被创痛所折磨。伽耶子的养母虽然是朝鲜人,但不愿女儿和朝鲜人相恋,坚决反对她和相俊的恋情。爱情看似自私,毕竟又不是两个人的事……

简介:

 抗日战争前夕,青岛地下党农运部长郑子龙,在万国公墓接头时被诱捕。当晚,以牙医为掩护的地下工作者丁建堂,从门缝里收到了交通员鲁成顺发出的告急信号。不久,党的交通员、丁建堂的新婚妻子叶玉芝从天津归来,她告诉丁建堂未找到上级领导,仅带回一只古瓶和在船上收到的一张画有古瓶与古币的纸条。丁建堂判断上级又派人来了,要她按期去慈云轩古玩店以兑换古董为名进行接头。叶玉芝到慈云轩后,老板见她没有古币,拒绝兑换。她回到家中,曾在船上注意过她的一位青年军官,现已改变装束来到她家门前。丁建堂闻声出门,一眼认出他是阔别多年的义弟夏东岳。虽然丁建堂曾救过夏东岳,两人是生死之交,但因多年未见,互相有些生疏,彼此经过一番探查,夏东岳才亮出古币,讲明自己受党派遣,前来打通崂山关系,准备建立抗日武装。在谈到郑子龙被捕情况时,丁建堂认为可能是叛徒出卖,并怀疑鲁成顺。为弄清组织情况,夏东岳在叶玉芝的表姐苏瑞娟的帮助下,化装成神父到狱中会见了危在旦夕的郑子龙。不料,他俩刚谈了几句话就被查监的军法处长焦金栋冲散。接着,夏东岳机智地制服了敌特孙厉,并从他口中得知青岛有人将自己的行踪告密。为营救老郑,他未能及时逃脱,被焦金栋逮捕。焦金栋为追查地下党新领导人,对夏东岳软硬兼施。夏东岳坚贞不屈,并设法逃出了虎口。他回到青岛,向新领导人汇报了情况,根据郑子龙提供的线索,派人去观海路9号查找交通员,找到的竟是鲁成顺。鲁成顺见到夏东岳后,非常激动,向他汇报了买武器的情况,并将夏以武术师的名义安排在日本豪士成川家中隐身。一天夜晚,夏东岳躲避搜捕时,偶然闯入丁建堂新居院内,听到他们夫妻正在银川。原来,叶玉芝已证实丁建堂叛变投敌,决定决裂。夏东岳佯装巧遇,借口藏身,并立即让丁建堂去见新领导人。叶玉芝乘他出门之际,告诉夏东岳丁建堂已叛变。夏东岳叮嘱叶玉芝要稳住他,然后迅速离去。丁建堂误认为神父是新领导人,便从苏瑞娟手中骗走古币,到教学"接头",还约神父到原丁宅看牙,以便下手。他刚刚出门,被匆匆赶来的苏瑞娟堵住质问,丁建堂为灭口,将她杀死。地下党接通了崂山关系,找到了武器下落,认清了丁建堂的面目,于是将计就计,惩办了叛徒。叶玉芝经过严酷的考验,与夏东岳等地下党的同志一道带着购买的武器,奔向崂山,去迎接新的战斗。

The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will.
