清朝初期，康熙皇帝尚且年少，奸臣从中控制政权，民不聊生。“天地会”是一个推翻清朝的民间组织。“天地会”首领陈近南（刘松仁 饰）在一次行动中幸得韦小宝（周星驰 饰）相救，小宝就此加入天地会，被派到王宫当卧底，偷取藏有清朝秘密的四十二章经。聪明机灵的小宝很快便成为了皇上的心腹，做了大官。小宝陷入了两难的状态，他既要执行任务却又跟皇帝成为了好朋友。就在小宝想要逃走之际，师父陈近南也找到了他，并派人监视他回到王宫。不久，小宝便受到了鳌拜同盟以及假太后的追杀，与天地会的人大战起来。

Joe Bell is a penny-pinching hermit saving for the day when his real life will begin. One day he's offered a chest filled with treasure by a cryptic old man known as, "The Clockmaker." After giving the chest to Joe, the Clockmaker "accidentally" locks the chest. Joe must now go on a series of wacky diverse adventures to find the key. Each adventure is a different genre. There are 15 genres in the film, including action-adventure, comedy, Western, romance, science-fiction, film noir, musical, and more. Joe is finally living life instead of saving. He makes new friends along the way and eventually finds the key on the necklace of a beautiful young woman named Abbey. He falls for her at first sight. However, his desires for her and the treasure are in direct conflict. After another series of dangerous adventures to save Abbey's life and recover the key, he must choose between the two.
Johnathan is a nine-year-old boy who loves sea monsters, and his 300 lb. pet pig, named Wee Wee. Unlike most kids, Johnathan has nystagmus, which makes his eyes "flutter." He also suffers from severe narrow angle glaucoma; an acute condition that if untreated can lead to permanent blindness. JoLynn cares for Johnathan alone while her singer/songwriter husband David travels in search of his big break. To treat Johnathan, she grows hydroponic marijuana to relieve the painful intraocular pressure Glaucoma causes. She cooks the marijuana into brownies and feeds them to him in secret. David"s parents, Mark and Linda, live nearby and provide for JoLynn and Johnathan as best they can on a fixed income. Linda is highly critical of JoLynn"s ability to raise Johnathan. During her son"s absence, Johnathan has become more undisciplined than Linda would like. While Mark tries to keep the peace, he is torn between his wife and their daughter-in-law, who he loves deeply.
